Navigating the Gulf’s Eastward Horizon: GCC-Asia Ties with China in a Shifting Global Order

Dr. Si Liu is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Georgetown University in Qatar and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), and a Senior Economist at Qatar’s Ministry of Labour. Trained in Political Science, economics, and data science (PhD), Dr. Liu combines academic research with applied policy expertise in quantitative economic analysis, labor markets, and energy systems. Dr. Liu’s current research focuses on the geopolitics of Gulf–Asia relations, with particular attention to the GCC’s engagement with China, as well as the intersection of economic diversification, energy market transitions, and regional security. Beyond teaching, Dr. Liu has led multi-stakeholder projects involving government, academia, and industry, contributing to scenario modeling, energy demand forecasting, and policy-oriented economic analysis.
