Robert has research expertise in the politics, international relations and foreign policies of the Middle East with an emphasis on the Gulf states. His latest book is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates: Foreign Policy and Strategic Alliances in an Uncertain World <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Manchester University Press, 2023). He has also contributed to debates on teaching and learning and on urban development. He has provided research and advice for the Instituto per gli studi di politica internationale (ISPI), Middle East Council, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Dutch Ministry of Defence, Delegation of the European Union to Egypt, and the Government of South Korea, amongst others. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has held visiting fellowships <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the University of Oxford, London School of Economics, and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. Professor Mason was formerly elected to the executive board of the International Studies Association Foreign Policy Analysis Section (2020-2022) and was a co-convener of the British International Studies Association Foreign Policy Working Group (2022-2023).
