Winners of the three awards will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Receive a trophy<\/li>\n<li>Be announced and celebrated at the GSS Opening Ceremony on April 11, 2026<\/li>\n<li>Be recognized on social media, website, and the event&#8217;s booklet<\/li>\n<li>Publication will be featured at the conference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tGulf Book Award\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>We are pleased to invite nominations for our Gulf Studies Symposium book award, a recognition celebrating exceptional scholarly works. Both authors and publishers are eligible to nominate, and while there is no restriction on the number of submissions per author, we encourage thoughtful and selective nomination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The book should be a scholarly monograph grounded in original research.<\/li>\n<li>Publications must be in English, released between January 2025 and December 2025.<\/li>\n<li>The content should be centered around one or more of the nine Gulf states: the six nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Iraq, Iran, and Yemen. It should comprehensively delve into one or more pertinent themes, such as political, economic, social, security, or cultural aspects relevant to the Gulf region.<\/li>\n<li>This award accepts submissions of original works. Please note that this award does not consider edited volumes, new editions of previously published books, bibliographies, or textbooks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nomination Deadline and Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Application deadline<\/strong> is February 22, 2026.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSe-9b8Kt9LnBxvKaV5gQryE2-bDthNtMjN-5WYwOAxqH79AQg\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">Click here<\/a><\/strong> to access the application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tGulf Studies Journal Article Award\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>5We are pleased to announce the <strong>Gulf Studies Journal Article Award<\/strong>. This award seeks to recognize and celebrate the contributions of scholars who have advanced the understanding of the Gulf region through their published work. By highlighting exemplary articles, we aim to promote innovative research and elevate the discourse on the Gulf region. We welcome submissions from all disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>The award will honor articles that demonstrate excellence in scholarship, methodological innovation, and contributions to diversity and inclusion. Submissions will be evaluated based on originality, research rigor, impact, clarity, and relevance to contemporary or historical issues in the Gulf, including the GCC states, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen. Eligible articles must have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals in 2025 or 2026.<\/p>\n<p>We invite scholars at all career stages to submit their work for consideration. The selection committee comprises experts in Gulf studies. We look forward to celebrating the outstanding achievements of scholars dedicated to enriching our understanding of the Gulf region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Journal Article Award Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One article chosen for the <strong>Gulf Studies Journal Article Award\u00a0<\/strong>will exemplify excellence across the professional spectrum of Gulf studies. Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Originality and Innovation:<\/strong>\u00a0The article should offer new insights or approaches to Gulf studies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research Rigo<\/strong>r: The methodology and research design should be robust and well-executed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Impact<\/strong>: The article should have an impact on the field, contributing to ongoing debates and discussions, and improving the understanding of the discussed topic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clarity and Accessibility<\/strong>: The writing should be clear, well-organized, and accessible to a broad academic audience.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Relevance<\/strong>: The article should address contemporary issues or historical perspectives relevant to the Gulf in the fields of defense and security, governance and reform, geopolitics, U.S.-Gulf relations, foreign policy, economy, energy, society and culture, and technology, among other fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Journal Article Award Submission Guidelines, Deadline and Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong>\u00a0The award is open to scholars at all career stages. Articles must have been published in a peer-reviewed academic journal in 2024 or 2025. This award aims to recognize, encourage, and celebrate the exceptional research and work of graduate students whose work focuses on the Gulf states, including the GCC states, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen. By highlighting exemplary scholarship, we seek to encourage and promote innovative research that advances our understanding of this pivotal region. We welcome submissions from all disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>The award criteria are designed to ensure that the selected papers exemplify academic excellence, clarity of presentation, originality, depth of analysis, quality of writing, relevance to the field, and potential for publication. Each submission will be carefully reviewed by our esteemed selection committee, comprised of distinguished scholars in Middle East and Gulf studies. We invite eligible graduate students to submit their papers and showcase their contributions to the field of Gulf studies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Graduate Paper Award Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Academic Rigor:<\/strong>\u00a0The paper should demonstrate a high level of academic rigor, appropriate for graduate-level work, including a well-defined research question and solid theoretical framework.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clarity and Presentation:<\/strong>\u00a0The paper should be well-written, logically organized, and clearly presented, making it accessible to a broad academic audience.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Originality and Creativity:<\/strong>\u00a0The research should offer original insights or creative approaches to addressing the research question.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Depth of Analysis:<\/strong>\u00a0The analysis should be thorough and detailed, showing a deep understanding of the topic and the existing literature.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quality of Writing:<\/strong>\u00a0The paper should be well-written, with clear arguments, proper structure, and appropriate use of academic language.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Relevance to Field of Study:<\/strong>\u00a0The paper should be covering one or more of the Gulf states, or the Gulf region as a whole (including the GCC states, Iraq, Iran, and\/or Yemen) and demonstrating a strong understanding of the subject matter and its broader context.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Potential for Publication:<\/strong>\u00a0While not always required, papers with the potential for publication in academic journals are often favored.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advisor&#8217;s Endorsement:<\/strong>\u00a0Endorsement or recommendation from the student&#8217;s advisor, professor, or a faculty member.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Graduate Paper Submission Guidelines, Deadline and Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong>\u00a0The award is open to Masters and PhD students.
