Dear Dr. Gaeeva,
Please pardon the intrusion. We hope this email finds you well.
On behalf of the executive editors of Bustan: The Middle East Book Review, I would like to invite you to contribute a short review (of approximately 1,500-3,000 words) to our Spring 2024 issue (Vol. 15, No. 1).
The review would address:
Courtney Freer and Alanoud al-Sharekh, Tribalism and Political Power in the Gulf: State-Building and National Identity in Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE (New York: Bloomsbury Publishing, 2021).
Bustan is a bi-annual journal jointly published by Penn State University Press and Tel Aviv University’s Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies. It includes review essays and traditional short book reviews. We endeavor to make the journal’s content accessible to a broad audience of scholars, students, and practitioners engaged in the study of the Middle East and the Islamic world both past and present.
Established in 2010, Bustan has been published with Penn State University Press since 2016, and the journal is archived on JSTOR and now distributed through the Scholarly Publishing Collective.
Thanks to a generous donation, our executive editors – Itamar Rabinovich, Eyal Zisser, and Uzi Rabi – would like to offer you an honorarium of $250 for this review.
Please note that our deadline for receiving review essays for the Spring 2024 issue is January 31, 2024.
We will be providing you with access to an e-book in lieu of a hard copy of the book for review. If this is a problem, please do not hesitate to let us know.
We look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. We realize you may be unable to review this book, and we would appreciate one or two recommendations for fitting reviewers in the field.
Best regards,
Joel D. Parker, PhD
Deputy Managing Editor
