A Chinese company will build a 350 megawatt (MW) thermal power station in Iraq’s Nineveh Governorate as part of an oil-for-projects agreement signed by the two countries five years ago. In 2019, Baghdad signed a landmark pact with Beijing involving the setting up of projects in Iraq by Chinese firms in exchange for crude oil supplies. “The project is designed to expand power production in the Governorate to cater for its needs…Phase 1 of the project will be launched shortly,” noted the official Iraqi News Agency. This initiative aims to enhance energy security, provide reliable electricity to homes and businesses, and support diversification in energy usage.
