  • FIFA Signs Four-Year Global Partnership with Saudi Oil Giant Aramco
Aramco, an energy company majority-owned by the Saudi government, has been announced as a sponsor of both the 2026 Men’s World Cup and 2027 Women’s World Cup by FIFA. Aramco’s sponsorship comes ahead of the expected announcement that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup. FIFA has a history of welcoming state-sponsored companies as major partners, with Gazprom and Qatar Airways both sponsoring the recent World Cups held in Russia and Qatar respectively. Additionally, FIFA President Infantino hinted at another reason behind the deal, stating that “Aramco has a strong track record of supporting world-class events, but also a focus on developing grassroots sport initiatives.” President Infantino also noted that this partnership will assist FIFA in successfully delivering its flagship tournaments over the next four years and enable them to provide enhanced support to 211 FIFA member associations across the globe. Such a partnership not only enhances Aramco’s brand name worldwide but also aims to emphasize the importance of fossil fuel production and challenge the renewable energy sector that pushes for the discontinuation of fossil fuel production.
