S.J.Res.185 – A joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against the Islamic Republic of Iran that have not been authorized by Congress

S.J.Res 185 – introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine [D-VA] on April 27th – directs the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Iran unless a declaration of war or authorization to use military force for such purpose has been enacted. The resolution was brought to the Senate for a vote and was rejected 47-50-1 after President Trump met with Senate Republicans. This vote comes after the Senate passed a separate but nearly identical war powers resolution the day before, effectively rescinding the Senate’s support for a measure to limit military action in Iran.
