Iraq and Chevron Sign Consultancy Deal for West Qurna-2 Oilfield
Iraq has signed an agreement with Chevron under which the US major will provide technical consultancy services to state-run Basra Oil Company as it advances development plans for the West Qurna-2 oilfield, one of the country’s largest by both production and proven reserves. Under the deal, Chevron will advise Basra Oil Company through ongoing negotiations on the field’s development. Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Khudair oversaw the signing. The Qurna-2 deal follows a wave of agreements signed during Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s July visit to Washington, which Khudair said were worth $200 billion in total and aimed at boosting crude and gas output and upgrading hydrocarbon infrastructure.
