A group headed by Masdar has selected China Power Engineering Consulting Group International Engineering Co (CPECC) to lead the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of Oman’s first utility-scale solar and battery storage facility. The Ibri III project envisages the installation of 500 MW of solar capacity, backed by a 100-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Once switched on, it will generate enough clean electricity to power around 33,000 homes annually while eliminating more than 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
