QatarEnergy says Hormuz crisis may delay LNG expansion projects
QatarEnergy CEO and Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Al-Kaabi announced that disruptions to equipment deliveries caused by the Strait of Hormuz crisis could delay later phases of Qatar’s North Field LNG expansion. The first North Field East LNG train remains scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2027, while additional trains planned for 2027 could face delays and the North Field South expansion is scheduled to begin production in 2028. Al-Kaabi also said attacks on the Ras Laffan export hub have disabled approximately 17% of Qatar’s LNG capacity, damaging two LNG trains that could take up to three years to repair and a gas-to-liquids plant expected to complete repairs in the first quarter of 2027.
