Samsung C&T secures $1.3 billion contract for carbon facility in Qatar
Samsung C&T has received a letter of award from QatarEnergy LNG for the engineering, procurement and construction of a major carbon compression and transport facility in Qatar. The contract is valued at about KRW 1.9 trillion ($1.3 billion). The project, to be built in Ras Laffan Industrial City about 80 km north of Doha, will capture and compress CO₂ from nearby LNG liquefaction plants, dehydrate it, and transport it via 20 km of underground pipelines to a depleted gas reservoir for permanent geological storage. Completion is slated for 2030. Once operational, the facility will process up to 4.1 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, making it one of the Middle East’s largest carbon management projects and a key element of Qatar’s energy-transition plans, Samsung C&T said.
