UAE breaks ground on $6 billion solar and battery storage project
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated construction of a $5.99 billion renewable energy project, featuring a 5.2GW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant with 19 gigawatt-hour (GWh) advanced battery storage system. The foundation stone for the initiative was laid in the presence of Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Martyrs’ Affairs. Developed by Masdar in partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), the project aims to deliver 1GW of clean, continuous baseload power at a competitive tariff.
